This emergency radio has more features packed into it than any other radio I've ever seen. In addition to running off 4 different power sources and receiving AM, FM, Shortwave, Weather, Aviation and VHF TV signals, it will also charge your cellphone and even provide emergency lighting.

Four Power Sources
The KA009R will run off Solar Power, Crank Power, AC Power and AA battery Power. It's more sophisticated, engineering wise, than most other radios, so let me explain. First, the KA009R has a built-in NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery. This battery is the one that is charged by sunlight, by crank power, or by the AC plug-in charger. 6 hours of AC charging will give you up to 72 hours of playing time. 4 hours of bright sunlight will give you up to 24 hours of playing time. Two minutes of cranking will give you up to one hour of playing time. Cranking is really the last resort, as the solar charger is the primary way of keeping the unit charged - just store it where it gets some sunlight and you'll never need to crank it. Even if the internal NiMH battery is dead, you can still power the radio from sunlight alone.

The fourth way to play it is with 3 AA batteries. So if you lose the AC charger, break off the crank handle and smash the solar panel, you can still just put 3 batteries in it and it will run for about 100 hours.

AM/FM/Shortwave/Etc.
Kaito has packed in a tremendous number of receivers into this small package. Here are the specifications for the receiver:

No, it doesn't pick up cable or satellite TV, and no, you can't watch TV on the radio - you can only listen.

Will Charge Your Cellphone
In an emergency, you can use the crank dynamo generator on your KA009R to charge a cellphone. A charging cable and six adapters are provided to fit most phones on the market. With some phones, you will need to experiment with different crank speeds to find a speed that produces the right amount of current. Many phones will charge at any crank speed, but some are designed to only charge at a specific voltage, so crank at different speeds until you see the charging light on your phone come on, then keep cranking at that speed.
